High-Shear Granulator TDG

The first choice for high granule density and fast granulation

The TDG (Top Drive Granulator) is an efficient, top‑driven wet granulator designed for fast granulation processes involving particularly dense granules with a homogeneous structure. It features flexible options for activating the chopper. High process reliability is ensured by the clear separation between the technical area and the GMP area. Easy operation as well as convenient filling, cleaning and inspection are provided by the lowerable processing bowl. Suitable for batch sizes ranging from 25 to 1,200 liters.

Benefits:

  • High granule density
  • Fast granulation
  • Space‑saving design
  • Easy handling
  • Good cleanability

Special Features:

Process

The top‑drive granulator TDG, equipped with a top‑mounted anchor agitator, completes the Glatt range of wet granulators. It stands for high granule density and rapid granulation. The domed, cylindrical dished bottom ensures optimal product movement by preventing the formation of “dead” zones.

Plant Design

The well‑engineered plant design sets benchmarks in terms of GMP compliance. In addition, the practical wall‑mounted installation of the TDG meets GMP requirements. This configuration is especially space‑saving and minimizes the number of components located within the production area.

High-Shear Granulation Process

High shear granulation, also known as vertical granulation or wet granulation, is a highly developed shaping process for granulation.

The shaping process for granulation takes place in a closed vessel equipped with mixing tools and a chopper. The particles are simultaneously pulverized and mixed while a binder liquid is added. This creates liquid and solid bridges and very dense granules are formed.

Originally, the granulating liquid was poured into the product. Today, we achieve a better-metered distribution via a spray nozzle – a more uniform granulate is produced.

Applications

Solutions and Options

Torque Measurement

The energy required to rotate the impeller is often used as an indicator for determining the granulation end point.
For every user and their different needs regarding torque determination, Glatt provides the appropriate solution. In addition to the standard implementation of measuring the power consumption of the frequency converter, it is also possible to measure the direct power consumption of the impeller motor. Both variants are influenced by interference factors in energy transmission and by potential wear of mechanical components.

If the torque values need to be determined absolutely, Glatt offers a non-contact and calibratable torque measurement directly on the rotor. This enables exact determination of the torque.
